Author Guidelines

All articles or manuscripts submitted to Qur'anic Studies Review must follow the template format provided.

The structure of the article or manuscript consists of:

Abstract

The abstract submitted to Qur'anic Studies Review should be concise and factual containing the statement of the topic, objectives, arguments, and general findings. References are not necessarily needed. The use of abbreviations should be avoided; provided that it is necessary, it should be defined in the initial part of the abstract, e.g. Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Tarbiyah (STIT). In addition, the abstract should not contain picture(s) or table(s), yet use single space, EB Garamond, font size 11, and comprise 150-200 words. Keywords should contain the general terms, and be single-spaced, EB Garamond, font size 11, no more than 5 phrases each separated by a semicolon [;], e.g., Excellent society; western; Muslims; etc.

Introduction

This section contains the background of the problem, general objectives, as well as a brief review of what should be and the factual conditions in the field. This section also describes relevant theoretical studies, both sourced from books and research results published in scientific journals. The entire article’s content is written using EB Garamond font, 12 pt, with 1 spacing.

To avoid replicating and duplicating previous research, you need to outline two important things: firstly, 1) who has done research on the same topic (perhaps the most recent research will suffice); and 2) where the research was conducted (especially for field research); 3) what was the problem, and what methods were used; 4) what were the results of the research.

Second, it includes: 1) the problem to be solved in the proposed research; 2) what methods are used in the proposed research; 3) what are the expected results of the research; 4) the contribution or difference of the proposed research with previous studies using the same topic. A detailed description of your method of conducting the research is not required in this section. However, if you feel it is necessary, you may mention it in no more than two paragraphs.

A little exploration of your discussion flow and expected outcomes would be a good point to close this section of the introduction.

The First Aspect of the Discussion, as the Second Section

Here you may discuss every aspect of the issue one by one. It is necessary to build an argument and to provide original data discussed and compared to research and works of other scholars. In other words, the way to discuss an issue here is by combining the data and the discussion. So, it is not recommended to separate merely data description from its analysis.

Every quotation is written down in a specific way that can be identified as a “quotation” different from your original text. At the end of every quotation, you have to put its reference[s] in the footnote style of the Chicago Manual Style 17th Edition (full note). A reference must also be put at the end of every citation, paraphrasing ideas from someone’s works.

The Second Aspect of the Discussion, and so on

It is possible to add sections as needed. A section can consist of multiple sub-sections, typed and positioned at the left margin, like the following example.

Sub-section as part of its parent section

You do not need to add any special indentation in typing body text under the sub-section heading. The body text here is typed just like any other body text.

Another sub-section

Although you may need another sub-heading under this “sub-section,” it is not recommended. Instead, please arrange your discussion and explanation in narrative paragraphs. In addition, the listing style of the following paragraph is also not suggested.

Conclusion

Please provide your remarks here as a closing statement. It could be a conclusion from your discussion and analysis, and recommendations for the further research project. In this section as well, you may give your acknowledgment for people and parties whose supports make your research possible.

Bibliography

All references referred to in the text must be written in the reference list. Preferred references are articles taken from the latest journals/publications, no later than 5 years before article submission (paper submission).
